Signs You Need Electrical Panel Repair

Watch for these warning signs:

Breakers trip repeatedly, even with normal use

A panel that feels warm or hot to the touch

Buzzing, crackling, or a burning smell near the panel

Lights that flicker or dim across the house

Rust, scorch marks, or a panel labeled Federal Pacific or Zinsco

Breakers that will not reset

If you notice any of these signs, have a licensed electrician take a look before the problem gets worse.

Why Does Your Breaker Keep Tripping?

A breaker that trips once in a while, tied to one appliance, usually is not urgent. But if the same breaker keeps tripping, trips with nothing unusual running, or will not reset at all, that points to a bigger issue: an overloaded circuit, a worn breaker, or in some cases a short or ground fault inside the panel itself.

Call us if:

  • The same breaker trips more than once a week
  • It trips with nothing unusual plugged in
  • It will not reset, or trips again right after resetting
  • The panel feels warm to the touch

if you notice heat, sparking, or a burning smell, stop using that circuit and call us instead of resetting it again. A worn breaker is usually a simple circuit breaker replacement; repeated tripping across multiple circuits can mean the panel itself needs attention.

Do You Have a Federal Pacific Electrical Panel?

Federal Pacific panels were common in homes built before the 1990s, and many have since been flagged for a safety issue: their breakers can fail to trip during an overload, which removes the protection a breaker is supposed to provide. If your panel is labeled Federal Pacific or FPE, it is worth having it checked even if you have not noticed a problem yet.

We inspect the panel, test how the breakers actually perform under load, and tell you plainly whether a repair is enough or a full panel replacement is the safer option. We never recommend a replacement just because of the brand name, only because of what the inspection actually shows.

Circuit Breaker Panel Repair

Circuit breaker panel repair covers everything from a single failing breaker to a panel that is undersized for how the home is actually used. Our electricians check the panel schedule, test breakers under normal load, and look for loose or corroded connections that can cause heat buildup. Most jobs involve replacing a worn breaker, correcting a connection, or addressing a circuit that is carrying more than it was built for. We explain what we find in plain terms before any work begins, so you know exactly what you are paying for and why.

Is It Safe to Wait on Panel Repair?

Waiting on a panel repair is not always dangerous, but it can be. A hot panel, sparks, or a burning smell means you should stop using that circuit and call us right away instead of waiting for a scheduled visit. A breaker that trips occasionally can usually wait for a normal appointment, but repeated tripping or a panel that feels warm should not sit for long. When in doubt, a quick inspection is the safest way to know whether your situation is urgent or something that can be scheduled normally.

Why Choose Marvel Electricians

Marvel Electricians has been licensed and insured since 2009. In a recent project from August 2026, a renovated condominium was losing power in certain circuits without a clear trip. Our electrician reviewed the labels, loads, and connections and traced the issue to a termination showing signs of heat. After walking the customer through two possible approaches and explaining why one would last longer, the team removed the damaged part, prepared each conductor, and installed a replacement with the proper rating. The panel tested stable under normal use, and the customer left knowing exactly what changed and why.

What Our Electricians Say

“This appointment included a concern about a panel that overheated or was undersized for the household load. The most useful evidence came from observing the system during ordinary use instead of relying on age alone.”

— our electrician

“Ask which observation supports the recommendation. Advice about electrical panel repair is more useful when the proposed work connects directly to a documented finding.”

What Our Customers Say

“Replacing our outdated panel switch was a game-changer. The new system is more efficient and has improved our home’s overall safety.”

Ivan Rhylle Cabaya, Oxnard, CA

“Our main breaker panel had been making a faint buzzing sound and tripping constantly whenever we ran the laundry. Marvel Electricians responded quickly, identified a faulty main switch, and safely rebuilt the panel components. Power has been completely stable ever since.”
