Marvel Electricians has repaired lighting problems across Southern California since 2009, which adds up to 17 years of experience tracking down flickering fixtures, dead switches, and buzzing lights to their real cause. A fixture that will not turn on, a switch that no longer controls the light correctly, or a circuit that trips when the lights come on can all have different root causes that look similar on the surface. Our licensed electricians test before replacing, so you are not paying to swap parts that were never the problem. Take a look at our other electrical services for anything beyond lighting repair.

Flickering Lights? Here's Why

Flickering lights usually come from one of a few sources:

A loose bulb or fixture connection

A failing dimmer switch

A loose wire further along the circuit

When several lights flicker at once, changing one bulb usually does not help, since a loose connection farther along the circuit is often responsible. Our electricians check the switch, the fixture, and the circuit as a whole rather than assuming the first visible part is the cause.

Light Fixture Buzzing or Humming

A buzzing or humming fixture is usually caused by one of three things: a dimmer switch that is not compatible with the bulbs installed, a loose wire connection inside the fixture, or an aging ballast in an older fluorescent fixture. Dimmer incompatibility is common with certain LED bulbs, since not every dimmer is built to work smoothly with every bulb type. A loose connection can also cause a light buzz that gets worse over time rather than better.

Our electricians check all three areas during a repair visit rather than guessing which one applies, and if the dimmer itself turns out to be the issue, we can recommend a compatible replacement so the buzzing does not return once new bulbs are installed.

Ceiling Light Not Working? Common Causes

When a ceiling light stops working, the cause is usually the switch, the fixture, or the wiring behind it, and figuring out which one it is changes the whole repair. We start by testing the switch itself, since a worn switch is a simple and common fix. If the switch checks out fine, we look at the fixture’s connections next, and finally the wiring feeding that circuit if neither of those explains the problem. This step by step approach means we are not replacing a whole fixture when the actual issue is a ten dollar switch, or vice versa.

Light Switch Repair

A light switch that no longer controls the light correctly, whether it does nothing, only works sometimes, or feels loose, is one of the more common lighting repair calls we get. We repair or replace the switch as needed and confirm the fixture responds normally afterward, including any circuit breaker replacement if the underlying issue turns out to be at the panel rather than the switch itself.

Not every lighting problem means the fixture needs to be replaced. If the wiring and switch are sound and the fixture itself is otherwise in good shape, a repair is usually the right call. Replacement makes more sense when the fixture is old, damaged, or no longer supports the bulbs or dimmer you want to use. Our electricians will tell you honestly which situation applies rather than defaulting to the more expensive option.

Why Choose Marvel Electricians

Marvel Electricians has been repairing lighting problems across Southern California for 17 years, and that track record shapes how carefully we diagnose every call. At a retail storefront a few months ago, the occupant noticed a dimmer producing noise and inconsistent output. A review of labels, loads, and connections narrowed the concern to a neutral wire that shifted under load. Our electrician explained two possible approaches and why the longer lasting option fit that property, and after approval the team replaced the damaged part and fitted a properly rated replacement. Every affected device responded normally during the walkthrough, without heat, noise, or irregular operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does lighting repair cost?

Lighting repair starts from $80. The final price depends on whether the issue is at the switch, the fixture, or the wiring behind it.

Standard lighting repairs typically do not require a permit. Our electricians will let you know if your specific situation is different.

Intermittent flickering often points to a loose connection that only fails under certain conditions, such as heat or vibration, rather than a constant fault.

An incompatible dimmer can cause buzzing or shortened bulb life, but it does not usually damage the fixture itself. Swapping to a compatible dimmer typically solves it.

Most ceiling light repairs are completed in a single visit, often within an hour once the cause is identified.
